چکیده

We extend some relations between percolation and the dependence of Gibbs states on boundary conditions known for Ising ferromagnets to other systems and investigate their general validity: percolation is defined in terms of the agreement of a configuration with one of the ground states of the system. This extension is studied via examples and counterexamples, including the antiferromagnetic Ising and hard-core models on bipartite lattices, Potts models, and many-layered Ising and continuum Widom-Rowlinson models. In particular our results on the hard square lattice model make rigorous observations made by Hu and Mak on the basis of computer simulations. Moreover, we observe that the (naturally defined) clusters of the Widom-Rowlinson model play (for the WR model itself) the same role that the clusters of the FortuinKasteleyn measure play for the ferromagnetic Potts models. The phase transition and percolation in this system can be mapped into the corresponding liquid-vapor transition of a one-component fluid.

Phase transition for the Ising model on the Critical Lorentzian triangulation

Ising model without external field on an infinite Lorentzian triangulation sampled from the uniform distribution is considered. We prove uniqueness of the Gibbs measure in the high temperature region and coexistence of at least two Gibbs measures at low temperature. The proofs are based on the disagreement percolation method and on a variant of Peierls method. The critical temperature is shown ...

Gibbs Density Surface of Water and Steam: 2nd Debate on the Absence of Van Der Waals’ “Critical Point”

A revised phase diagram for water shows three distinct fluid phases. There is no continuity of liquid and gas, and no “critical point” on Gibbs’ density surface as hypothesized by van der Waals. A supercritical colloidal mesophase bounded by percolation transition loci separates supercritical liquid water and gas-phase steam. The water phase is bounded by a percolation transition (PA) of availa...

Molecular Simulation of Three-body Interactions for Vapor-liquid and Solid-liquid Phase Equilibria

The phase behavior of both pure systems and binary mixtures has been widely studied by molecular simulation [1], using techniques such as the Gibbs ensemble [2], Gibbs-Duhem [3] or histogram reweighing [4] algorithms. The common aim of many of these investigations is to accurately predict the phase diagram using effective intermolecular potentials, most notable the Lennard-Jones potential. In c...

Coexisting two-phase flow in correlated two-dimensional percolation

The simultaneous percolation of two immiscible ~noncrossing! phases in correlated two-dimensional percolation has a monotonically decreasing probability for increasing scale, leading to vanishing probability for infinite systems. However, an increasing probability for noncrossing coexistence with increasing observation size occurs for strongly correlated percolation models. When the correlation...

Phase diagrams of hard spheres with algebraic attractive interactions.

The phase diagrams of systems made up of hard spheres interacting with attractive potentials of the form -1/r(3+sigma) are calculated using Monte Carlo simulations, second-order thermodynamic perturbation theory, and an augmented van der Waals theory. In simulations of the systems with sigma=0.1, 1, and 3, fluid-solid coexistence results are obtained using the Gibbs-Duhem integration technique;...
